Reviewing John Lewis 2013

This advert was directed by Elliot Dear and Yves Geleyn  and was obviously one of the biggest adverts in 2013 with 212,000 mentions on twitter so therefore then started to 'trend' compared to other adverts such as the Sainsburys advert; Christmas For a Day which only racked up 38,000 views and the 37,000 views of the Marks and Spencers advert; Magic & Sparkle. The idea behind the John Lewis advert was to show what it's like seeing Christmas for the first time, as the 'bear' had never seen Christmas and the 'hare' showed him what Christmas is about.
The advert was animated but still held some real life aspects to it, such as the clock placed in the bear's cave by the hare. Although the advert had alot of views and great reviews from it, not one item in the advert was actual John Lewis product. The song "Somewhere Only Where We Know" was the song in the advert, sang by Lily Allen the song was number one in the 'Top 40 Charts' and stayed number one for several weeks.

Reviewing the Fairy advert 2012

The fairy advert shows how the brand 'fairy' has been going on for years and years and is still the 'best brand' to families, i would say that the advert mainly appeals to women that have a family, and dont necessarily have a dishwasher. Although this advert is very good, it had some complications with people saying that fairy doesnt last as long as other brands, naming the product as fake. The advert shows the different decades of the washing up liquid and how although years have changed, the product had stayed the same and reliable. In 2013 Fairy had finally got the title of the product that does actually last longer than other products.

Tierbisse

Introduction

Our original intentions were, to create a product that would make the audience be excited about it and it to be the best thing in the world. We had orginally had intentions to create either; edible wallpaper, a clone machine or a pocket sized unicorn. Obviously we didnt decide to go with this as the product we decided to go with was 'Tierbisse' which in German, means 'animal bites' which is our cereal we have created. We didn't get time to actually make the packaging as we ran out of time and we had to shoot our commercial, we decided to aim our product to Germans as we stereotypically thought that they eat a lot of meat so we aimed it at them.

Main Body

In the the role that I had in the commercial was the boom operator (sound) which means that I had to make sure that I got the voices from the actors correctly and to make sure that the audio goes through the microphone to ensure that the audience will be able to hear what is being said. I also did one of the actors make up to make him look like a lady, although I wasn't originally going to I did as I had lipstick etc. with me at the time so I offered to help out and put lipstick on him. The location we did the shoot in was the media staff's kitchen, we also filmed some of the commercial in a spare room that had space and no one was using at that time we filmed on the Tuesday and then had finished on the Friday.  At the very start of the production, we produced a presentation explaining what Tierbisse means and what it means, why we chose the layout we did for the advert, making it bright, strange and not like any other ordinary advert.  The presentation also had to be shown in front of our class, our storyboard had the diagrams of our advert, a rough copy of what we had thought of doing for our commercial. Within the commercial we have a dance part where the actor (Wolfgang) has eaten the cereal and he has gone to a “happy land” where he is hallucinating and there is 2 other characters, with masks on dancing with him, this could add a strange but comedic feel to it. I did enjoy watching them dance about as they looked silly.

                                                                        Conclusion

In summary, I think the commercial filming was very good, the group I was working in was very good and focused on what we had to do therefore everything got done a lot quicker and easier.  Although I do like the final piece I think the dancing part could've been filmed and maybe edited better to make it look more crazy, I would've liked to see some sort of animation or bright colours added into it to make it look more colourful and bright. The pre-production was very good and organised, I think the script that we wrote was good as we had to write it in german, making sure that everything was correct and not the wrong words, the actual production of the commercial was very good, everyone understood what job they had and they stuck to it, Emily was a very good director and if she wanted to change something to make the camera operator make a shot look better she would say, she made good decisions. Overall, I think the shoot went very well.

"Little Baby's Ice Cream" Advert

'Little Babys Ice Cream'
This advert is supposed to be advertising ice cream but it's just a man that is eating himself. I dont really understand why. I just find this generally creepy and makes me feel somewhat, uncomfortable. I think the audience that they've aimed their advert could possibly be teenagers to adults? maybe, 17+
